Our Approach


Foster America launched with a focus on recruiting, developing, and deploying talented professionals – our fellows – with the skills and expertise needed for child welfare sector innovation.

Today, we continue to identify and invest in promising leaders and help them learn and apply their experiences to transform the child welfare system. We are now scaling the proven content, curriculum, and coaching model we built for our fellows to exponentially increase the overall capacity of our field for transformation.

Participants in our leadership development programs amplify their skills, accelerate their work, and advance their careers. Foster America welcomes a range of backgrounds and experiences. These include current child welfare practitioners, community and governmental leaders, corporate professionals, and those who work in related fields.

Our leadership development offerings include:

• Full-time positions with Foster America, including developmental roles embedded in local government, to lead innovation efforts.

• Specialized year-long cohorts for those presently working for child and family wellbeing to grow their network and skills while working on transformation projects.

• Timely, topical workshops and courses, open to everyone committed to building skills for child welfare change.
